This 4-speed L82 1973 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible offers one-year-only styling that is adored by many third-generation Corvette aficionados. In fact, even esteemed Corvette designer Larry Shinoda was very fond of the 1973 model because he thought the combination of the new, longer front nosecone and sharp rear body lines with chrome bumpers was the most similar to the original designer’s goal for the Mako-inspired body style.
Because of government-mandated safety regulations enacted for 1973, the Corvette design team was tasked with developing a new front end that could withstand a 5 MPH impact without damaging the lights or safety equipment. The solution was to remove the front chrome bumpers and install an injection-molded urethane bumper cover and paint it to match the body color. Ride and handling issues were also addressed that year, as new steel-sleeved rubber chassis mounts improved road vibrations, sound-deadening material reduced noise inside, steel beams in the doors protected passengers from side impacts, and radial tires helped the 1973 Corvette glide down the road like never before.
While the LS4 454 CI big-block was still available by 1973, the engine had been detuned to 275 HP and the hot ticket was the new high-revving L82 350/250 HP V-8. Providing the lightweight front end and nimble handling of a small-block Stingray, the L82 convertible was arguably the best touring sports car offered by Chevrolet in 1973. This two-top example is finished in factory-correct Code 974 Elkhart Green paint and fitted with both an auxiliary hardtop and black soft top. The black interior features custom wood-grain accents on the console and door panels, a tilt/telescopic steering column and an AM/FM radio. The L82 350/250 HP engine is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear end. Riding on Rally wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, the convertible is equipped with air conditioning, power steering and power 4-wheel disc brakes.
