Imagine it’s the late 1960s. The Man – General Motors – has put its foot down on Chevrolet performance vehicles. Two dealerships, Yenko Chevrolet and Gibb Chevrolet, frustrated about engine size limitations of 400 cubic inches discovered a workaround that circumvented GM. Instead of using the standard order sheet for the Chevrolet Camaro, the two dealerships use the Central Office Purchase Order form. In doing so, they inadvertently created a legend – the COPO Camaro. And now, you can get your hands on a modern-day 2015 Chevrolet COPO Camaro.
The 2015 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is for sale at JKGalleria.com, and it’s at a Great price of Only– $89,900. That’s a steal considering the first 2015 COPO Camaro Sold for $300,000 at auction, and that the 201 COPO Camaro sold at auction for $700,000. However, what you get is a drag-ready Chevrolet COPO Camaro that’s logged zero track hours. In that regard, it may be 10 years old, but it’s still brand new.
This vehicle is number 66 of 69 produced. It continues the original COPO Camaro’s tradition of a limited production run.
Under the hood is a supercharged, LSX-based 5.7L (350 cubic-inch) V8 engine making 530 horsepower. It’s paired with a three-speed automatic gearbox. It comes with wheelie bars, a parachute, roll cage, carbon fiber hood, racing seats, racing gauges, and much more, including all documentation as well as the delivery book. It’s a drag-race ready monster that’s not street legal, so don’t go taking it to the grocery store to pick up pizza rolls and bottom-shelf liquor.
The product represented by the COPO name has changed a lot since its inception 50 years ago. Before, it was a guerrilla-style effort by angsty dealerships looking for a way to order more powerful Camaros they wanted to sell. Now, it’s a GM-backed effort to give customers a drag race-ready Camaro. COPO Camaros are still rare, and unnecessarily powerful, and the COPO name still carries weight.
